Sixty years of flying across the Atlantic Ocean, and seventy years of history, have shaped the Grupo SATA. Over these years, and particularly in the last decade, the Grupo SATA has grown steadily, and with increasing success. The origins of the Grupo SATA go back to the year 1941 when the five founding members created the "Azorean Society for Air Travel Studies", whose aim was to end the isolation of the islands. Like many other successful projects, the Grupo SATA was born of a simple idea. The founders believed that the strategic location, uniqueness and natural beauty of the nine Azorean islands provided sufficient motivation to create a strong, successful company. Over six decades have passed – despite the many difficulties encountered over the years, time has proven them right. Today the company plays a major role in providing accessibility for those who live on the islands – in addition, becoming an invaluable ally for the growth and development of tourist activity in the Azores. Six decades of flying have provided the Grupo SATA with real aeronautics 'know-how'. Under the blue skies and over the blue ocean the company strives to bring the soul of the Azores to every aspect of its' activities. |

The Luso-American Development Foundation is a private, financially independent Portuguese institution. Its main goal is to contribute towards Portugal's development by providing financial and strategic support for innovative projects by fostering cooperation between Portuguese and American civil society. It was created in 1985, the fruit of a decision made by the Portuguese government to create a private institution that would be constant, flexible and independent in promoting relations between Portugal and the United States, in the expectation that this type of exchange would further Portugal's economic, social and cultural development. FLAD's support is channeled in different ways. It awards scholarships and sponsors institutional projects, training programs and exchanges, for example (programs and scholarships). A substantial part of the Foundation's activity consists of launching its own projects, which it manages alone or in partnership with other institutions. The combination of climatic conditions from both the Atlantic and Mediterranean have made the Natural Park of Serra de São Mamede, situated in the northeast Alentejo, into a rich diversified natural mosaic. It is in the heart of this mountain range, in the middle of the natural park, that the mineral water Vitalis is collected. This natural mineral water has a low concentration of minerals (hyposaline), with a TDS of 45 mg/litre. Launched by the Unicer Group in June 1985, Vitalis rapidly conquered a strong position in the national bottled water market. Indeed, it is the only brand of natural mineral water with 8 Gold Medals and 8 Grand Gold Medals (the most recent in 2003) in the contest "Monde Sélection de la Qualité" - official proof of its top quality!
