
You can now check the status of you application for the 2013 diversity visa (greencard). In case you were not selected, there is the chance of being selected on October 1sr, 2012, as the Department of State might run another selectin process on that date.
Every year the United States randomly selects applicants from around the world to apply for 50,000 permanent resident visas. These visas are considered by many as the holy grail to immigrate to the United States, as it enables the applicant and direct family to live and work in the US, without requiring visa sponsorship.
If you would like to pursue the American Dream, or if you are in the US under a visa that does not enable you to work, or does but with restrictions, the diversity visa (greencard) lottery might be an option for you.
Applicants are classified for selection depending on the zone of the globe the country they are applying as citizens is located. There are North American, Africa, Asia, Europe, Oceania, and South America, Central America and the Caribbean. Applicants from countries with high volume of immigrants into the US are not allowed to participate in the diversity visa lottery.

The online registration period for the 2014 Diversity Visa Program (DV-2014) will take place in October 2012. The results of the selection process will be available from May 1st 2013 on.

For the application process you only need to submit basic personal information and a photograph. The photograph has certain requirements in terms of size and quality, thus make sure to follow the instructions given. The online system enables you to automatically check the picture before submitting. Make sure to print and/or save the confirmation page, as the information in it will be the only way to check if you were selected, or not.
ATTENTION - No fees are charged to participate in the lottery process, you will only be asked to pay application fees if you are selected. There are many online scams so please make sure you use the US Departmewnt of State webpage to submit your application.
