The short film “Celeste” portrays the lives of Portuguese immigrants in 1980’s, in the Ironbound community. Shot in seven days, on location in Newark (NJ), with renowned Portuguese and American actors, such as Joana Pais de Brito, Dinarte Freitas and Tiago Castro.
The score was composed by Björk’s right hand man Matt Robertson, who is known for his work on Sucker Punch, Inside Job and Quantum of Solace. The original 80’s music was written by indie band St. Lucia’s Jean-Philip Grobler. The film also features the famous portuguese song “O Corpo É Que Paga”, from iconic singer António Variações.
The look of the film was achieved by cinematographer Daniele Napolitano, in close collaboration with Technicolor’s colorist Tim Stipan, known for Black Swan, Haywire and Margin Call.
Financed entirely through the crowdfunding website Kickstarter and a personal loan, this is director José-Maria Norton’s first short film with an actual budget. The filmmaker ensured very high production
quality through high-end visual effects by VFX company Light of Day, color grading at Technicolor, 5.1 audio mix at a Dolbyapproved theater and proper conforming and finishing work in Smoke.
The director / filmmaker and some of the cast will be present at the screening.
